Objective

The aim of Noble Park Chess Club Reserves tournaments is to provide a pathway for young and less experienced players to ease into tournament chess. Entry in the Reserves is suitable for both adults and juniors, games start at 3PM and weekly commitment is required for the Reserves tournaments.

Reserves Tournaments

To bridge the gap between JCP and club tournaments, Noble Park Chess Club has created a series of tournaments named the Reserves to provide a pathway for young and less experienced players into tournament chess with a shorter time control to help junior players make this transition.

Each Reserves tournament in 2014 will run for 5 weeks with a $10 entry fee per tournament from 3 - 4pm. Entry in the Reserves is suitable for both adults and juniors wanting to prepare for regular tournament chess. The Reserves tournament series is separate to the Junior Coaching Program and there is no obligation for JCP participants to compete in the Reserves or for Reserves players to participate in JCP.

Our first tournament for the year is Fixed Openings, where each player will play two games per week, one game as white and one as black starting from a series of fixed moves. Each of the fixed openings demonstrates a particular chess strategy or trap with a requirement for a limited number of moves to be recorded during the game. The time control for each game will be 20 minutes with points awarded by checkmating your opponent or adjudicated on the board position recorded at the end of 20 minutes. Points accumulate towards prizes which will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.
